10 Revolutionary Makeup Ideas for Deep Skin Tone by a MUA

Updated: Oct 2, 2024

Honestly, we've all experienced a bad time with our skin tone following a makeup application at some point. I believe that everyone would like to move on from a makeover moment or two, whether it was an oxidized foundation or a flashback of concealer in images. The right cosmetics that would suit our skin tones have historically been hard to come by for us Black ladies. Furthermore, it can be difficult to apply items correctly so they appear seamless and natural once we have them. A few products and methods can help you reach your goal of improving the look of your skin. Discover more about the ten distinct.

Gratitude on Your Biggest Organ.

Throughout the years that I have been a makeup artist, I have heard from a lot of clients that they don't want a "cakey" foundation. That's a perfectly reasonable request. However, everyone should be aware that a cakey foundation can occur even before you apply makeup. Because of their skincare regimens, I've seen customers' skin appear thick and heavy with products. It's possible that you already know a good deal about skincare if you're reading this. In any case, it's important to emphasize that taking care of your skin on a regular basis is the real cornerstone to a flawless complexion. Whether you have acne or flawless skin, whether your skincare regimen consists of two steps or ten.

You Might Find Primer Useful.

Primer is one of those products that you either love or despise. There is a primer out there to fit your needs and preferences if you enjoy using them or are willing to give them a try. I love a glow even with my sensitive, acne-prone skin, so I avoid anything that can aggravate my skin or cause breakouts in favor of calming products like the Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer. It has a lotion-like texture, my makeup adheres to it flawlessly, and my foundation lasts all day. You can quickly achieve a flawless base without applying any makeup by using the setting spray that is appropriate for your skin type instead of a primer.

Locate the Perfect Shade

Have trouble deciding on the perfect color? As a guide, use the middle of your face and your neck. Choose a color that complements your neck or the middle of your face rather than attempting to utilize one shade to balance out your complexion. For this reason, SEINT assists you in locating the ideal color match for you. Apply less makeup as you approach your hairline and work your way outward from the center of your face where you started. Don't worry about blending your foundation straight into your hairline; women of color occasionally have darker foreheads. You can address this by using a deeper foundation color, a darker powder, or your bronzer (more on that later).

Find a happy medium by identifying regions of your neck and chest or by referring to brighter areas of your face if your face is darker than these places. Apply a little amount of foundation on your neck if you would like it to blend in even further. Using a large, fluffy brush, lightly dust a matte bronzer or darker powder over the foundation to create a smooth finish. These methods might help you avoid having an ashy or gray forehead from your makeup, regardless of the coverage and finish you choose.

Go, Darkness.

Our under-eye blackness usually has blue or purple undertones and can range from minor to severe. Choosing the appropriate shade of brown requires taking into account all of these factors because there are so many gorgeous tones of brown in our skin. Try using a peach- or orange-toned makeup hue that is one or two shades lighter than your skin to neutralize the darkness beneath your eyes if you have dark circles but still want to look naturally bright-eyed (this depends on how deep your complexion and under-eye darkness is). This kind of product will offer you the desired brightness without making your skin appear gray or chalky in pink or yellow. I adore using SEINT Demi Corrector on both my clients and myself. Makeup artists love this product due to its excellent coverage.

SEINT Demi Corrector, which totally eliminates darkness, is a great option if you enjoy using correctors or have moderate to severe dark circles. Applying requires tilting your head down so that it appears as though you are texting or staring at the ground while maintaining eye contact with the mirror. The area of your face with the greatest blackness is where you should apply your corrector. Apply a small quantity and use your fingers, a makeup sponge, or a synthetic blending brush to blend it in before applying your concealer. Be careful how much concealer and corrector you apply; applying too much or applying either product all the way up to your lash line can result in creasing.

Choosing Your Highlight and Contour.

Although contouring and highlighting aren't essential stages in your makeup procedure, doing them will always help you appear better. Try these steps: To determine your shade, start by focusing on the lighter portions of your chest and neck. These areas have the color and tone you need to help you choose. Either way, I use the SEINT Concealer. Consider the areas of your arms and shoulders where you are the darkest to determine your contour color. To your advantage, use that shade and tone. Usually, I utilize SEINT Contour. Try adjusting the shade one or two up or down from your reference points if you still want a deeper contour shade or brighter highlight. Just be sure to look for a product that has the same tone.

Apply Highlights and Contours.

When applying highlight and contour, aim to create an oval shape, as this helps determine product placement. For your eyes, imagine a diagonal line from the outer corners of your nostrils to the outer corners of your eyes, and fill the area within that line with your highlight shade. To contour your cheeks, locate your cheekbones with your fingers and apply the contour color directly on them. Make sure to apply the contour in a straight line to create a linear shadow that complements your highlight, making the high points of your face stand out more. For a larger forehead, use less highlight and more contour. If your nose bridge is wider, highlight the bridge and apply contour right beside the highlight, not on the sides of your nose. Blend your contour into your eye sockets and the front of your eyebrows with a blending brush for a more natural look.

Set it and move forward.

When setting your foundation and concealer, use a light application of powder (with or without coverage, based on your preference) and a soft touch to keep everything in place. Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r is an excellent choice: it's a thin, buildable powder that blurs imperfections without looking heavy. I recommend using multiple brushes to set your makeup. For your face, use a large, fluffy brush to evenly distribute the product in a thin layer. For your under-eye area, use a blending brush or any brush that fits comfortably. Pat the powder onto your skin rather than sweeping it to avoid brush streaks and hairs, as foundation and concealer are liquid-based. The patting method sets your makeup and prevents it from looking patchy or streaky.

Baking Glamor.

When you're baking, you use a generous amount of translucent or tinted loose powder on specific areas of your face to lock in concealer or highlight, achieving a brighter, creaseless, long-wearing look. Use a beauty blender or a large, fluffy brush to apply the powder under your eyes, on the bridge of your nose, the sides of your nose, and anywhere else you want to prevent your makeup from moving or creasing. To bake effectively, leave the powder on your face for a few minutes. I personally use Sacha Buttercup Setting Powder to enhance the yellow undertone in my skin, but you can explore other options like Laura Mercier, Beauty Bakerie, and Fenty Beauty. Continue with the rest of your makeup routine while the powder sets, and after a few minutes, sweep off any excess powder.

Warm Up Your Skin.

Applying blush is fairly straightforward, but bronzer can be a bit more intricate. Choose a bronzer that is about two shades darker than your skin with a matching tone. One of my personal favorites is SEINT Bronzer because it matches the warmth of the darker parts of my arms. To apply bronzer, use the shape of the number three: dust it on your forehead, temples, cheeks, and jawline. If you didn't apply your foundation to your hairline earlier, use your bronzer here to blend everything together.

The heart is where the highlights are.

Highlighters are fantastic for adding dimension and a beautiful sheen to your face. With so many lovely options available, choose a color you love, as long as it’s not too ashy. I personally love the SEINT highlighter. To perfect your placement, look in the mirror and tilt your head from side to side to see where the light hits the high points of your face, such as your cheekbones, temples, and parts of your forehead. Apply your highlighter to these areas for a natural, illuminated glow without sharp lines. Blend out the edges of your highlighter with a damp makeup sponge or your fingers, spritz your skin with your favorite setting or hydrating spray, and your complexion is ready to go.
